Family Promise of Greater Rockingham County is creating a program call the Interfaith Hospitality network in the Salem/Derry area of New Hampshire.
The Network will provide a safe place for homeless families with children to turn to for food, shelter, and social services. Participating congregations offer guidance and encouragement while preserving the dignity of families as they take steps to regain independence. Various faith communities demonstrate compassion and generosity as their volunteers put faith into action.
We will be a community reaching out to families in crisis. Professional staff at the Day Center will provide education and advocacy for homeless families to obtain housing, employment, health care and training. But volunteers will make if fiscally possible. On rotating weeks, 10-13 local area churches will open their doors to house families in crisis. Trained volunteers at these churches will provide guest families with daily food and shelter in private quarters, for one week at a time, 4-6 times per year. Each congregation offers nourishment to body and soul.
